WE MAKE CARPETS Peg Carpet

These cool designs made of clothespins by WE MAKE CARPETS are hanging in the Graphic Design Museum in Breda, The Netherlands.

WE MAKE CARPETS’ team includes Marcia Nolte, Stijn van der Vleuten and Bob Waardenburg and they “mix traditional skills and a critical view of the consumer society in unusual carpets.” The team of three takes a centuries old method of weaving and introduces modern consumer products to the technique. At first glance or from a distance all you would notice is some sort of pattern or decorative piece that looks like a carpet. However, once you take a closer look at their works you will notice something truly unique. The trio likes to use normal everyday consumer items that usually are good for one use and arrange them into wonderful art pieces. They have used items such as plastic forks, thumbtacks, paving tiles, pasta, and cotton balls. Their goal is to execute a contemporary view on wealth. You can see more of their work in the link above.
